State level Science Exhibition / Competition for Degree students
(2009-2010) is being organized at B.V.B. College, Bidar. Programme
Inauguration by Dr. B. G. Mulimani, Vice Chancellor, Gulbarga
University Gulbarga. Chief Guests of the function are : Dr. M. R
Gajendragad, former Vice Chancellor, Kuvempu University, Shimoga; Dr.
H. Honne Gowda, Member Secretary, Karnataka State Science and
Technology Academy, Bengalooru and Dr. Basavaraja J. Patil, Executive
Committee Member, Hyderabad Karnataka Educational Institutions, Gulbarga.

A culmination meet to convey our
gratitutde and felicitate the scientists who had taken part in
Karnataka Vijnana Vidya
Jagruthi – Student Scientist
Interaction meet which was conducted in all districts of the state,
Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parisaht had organized a culmination meet for
the scientists who took part in the programme.
The programme was held at
Jawaharlal Nehru Advanced Scientific Research Centre, Jakkur,
Bengaluru. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. C.N.R. Rao, 65
scientists participated in the programme.

25th Science Writers
Workshop for young aspiring writers in Kannada
5 days workshop was held for the
young aspiring writers in Kannada, the programme was held at Kaveri
Nisargadhama, Kushalnagar, Kodagu Dist. About 45 young aspiring
science writers and reporters participated in this camp. Eminent
science writers, columinists and resource persons from various field
guided the badding science writers. |

World Environment Day
As a part of World Environment day,
various programmes on environment protection were held at
Banagirinagar, Banashankari 2nd Stage, Bengaluru. Sri. V.S.
Savrvade, Project Asst, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat was resource
person and delivered talk on the aspect on environment protection.
To commemorate this special day there was many saplings which was
planted.
On June 6, 2010 Comemorate the
celebration of World Environment Day, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat
in association with Suchitra Balajagath had organized drawing
competition for school children. Prof. M.R. Nagaraju, Retd.
Professor, Govt. Science College, Bengaluru was the Chief guest for
the programme. About 60 students and parents participated in the
programme.
On June 10, 2010 valedictory
function was held at Suchitra Balajagath premises, during this
programme prizes with certificates were distributed to the students.
Dr. M.K. Sreedhar, Vice Principal, National College, Basavanagudi was
the Chief Guest and he delivered a talk on “Environmental conscience
in Ancient India”. |

Pre-methodology training workshop
for the district coordinators of children science congress
2 days pre-methodology training
workshop was held for the district coordinators of children science
congress, the programme was held at Dept. of Bio-technology, Bapuji
Engineering College, Davangere. The programme was held for 2 days and
eminent science personalities guided the district coordinators for
organizing various scientific activities ad to comeup with unique
projects for the state level CSC.
The focal theme of children science
congress `Land Resources : Use for prosperity, Save for posterity’.
Commemoration of completion of 2
years of governance by Govt. of Karnataka, a conference held by Dept.
of Science & Technology 25, June 2010.
The programme was held at Tripura
Sundari premises, Palace ground, Bengaluru. Exhibits depicting the
achievements of Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat was exhibited, also
book exhibition was organized. Sri V.S. Sarvade and Sri Prabhu S.
Math, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat participated in the Conference. |

Inauguration of Mobile science Lab
Mobile Science lab-aunique non
consisting of science equipments helpful for the school children to
conduct science experiments. The project is funded by Sarvashikshana
Abhiyana, Govt. of Karnataka and the project is implemented by
Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat. The inauguration was held at
Belgaum Science Centre, Belgaum. Sri Vijay Mahantesh, Deputy
Commissioner, Belgaum inaugurated the mobile science lab. Sri Sanjay
Nagalotimath, Sri Shivakumar Sambargimath and Sri V.S. Sarvade were
present during the programme. |

Samprata – state level basic
electronics workshop
A 2 days state level basic
electronics workshop was held at Bhaorao Kakatkar Science College,
Belgaum. The target groups for this particular programme were high
school physics teachers. About 25 teachers participated in this
programme. The 2 days programme mainly covered 10th Std. science
curriculum, based on which may experiments and powerpoint
presentations were held.

Technology Institute, delivering the inaugural talk he spoke about the
basic theories and development which has occurred in the field of
electronics. Basic electronic kit worth Rs. 700/-
developed by Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat was distributed to all
the participants |

About 180 selected highschool
students from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada participated in this above
said programme. The programme was held at National Institute of
Technology, Surathkal, Dakshina Kannada. The programme was
inaugurated by Dr. Shankaramurthy, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore
University. The programme was presided over by Dr. Sandeep Sanchethi,
Director, National Institute of Technology, Dr. N.A. Madhyastha, Dr.
Narendra Nayak, Dr. Jayanth, Dr. K.V. Rao, Dr. K.B. Ramesh and Sri V.S.

Valedictory programme of
International Year of Astronomy, Bicentenary celebration of Charles
Darwin and Dr. H.N. Srujanika held at Shimoga
Students of Bengaluru division
which comprised of Davangere, Chickmagalur, Shimoga and Bengaluru
districts gathered on the occasion of valedictory programme of IYA,
Bicentenary celebration of Charles Darwin and Dr. H.N. Srujanika about
124 students and teachers took part in this programme. The programme
was held for 2 days on 17th and 18th Sept. 2010 held at Veerashaiva
Kalyana Mantapa, Shimoga.

of Science, Bengaluru, Prof. B.B. Horatti, Zoology dept. Kuvempu
University, Shimoga, Prof. K.N. ural, PESIT, Shimoga, Dr. V.L.S.

Educational Institute and Dr. N.A. Madhyastha, eminent Botonist took
part as resource persons during the programme.
Valedictory programme -
International Year of Astronomy, Bicentenary celebration of Charles
Darwin and Dr. H.N. Srujanika held at Shravanabelagola:
Students of Mysore division
comprising of Mysore, Mandya, Hassan districts gathered on the
occasion of valedictory programme of IYA, Bicentenary celebration of
Charles Darwin and Dr. H.N. Srujanika about 186 selected students and
52 teachers participated in the programme. Dr. Sree Raghavan, Sri
Sreevatsa, Dr. Narendra Nayak, Prof. Hamsaraj, Prof. Ahmed and Prof.
Nagaraj took part in the programme as resource persons. The programme
was inaugurated by local MLA, Sri Puttenagowda, Sri Balakrishna, Sri
Kuntaji Rao, Dr. H.R. Swamy, Vice-President, Karnataka Rajya vijnana
Parishat were present during the occasion.
Apart from popular science
lectures, there was also 2 science drama which were enacted by the
students from Ramakrishna Educational Institution, Puttur. |

Science quiz held on the occasion
of Celebration of 100th Birth centenary of Nobel laureate Dr.
Subramaniam Chandrashekar and also celebration of birth centenary of
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
A unique science quiz was conducted
for the pre-university students on the “Life and achievements” of Dr. Subramaniam Chandrashekar and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Both written
and oral quiz were conducted for the students, certificates and prizes
were distributed to the students.

degree students - commemorating the 50th year of invention of Laser
2 days workshop for degree
students to commemorate the 50th year of invention of laser was held
at Prof. M.A. Sethu Rao Auditorium, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat,
Bengaluru. The inauguration function was held on 12th Oct. 2010 and
the programme was inaugurated by Dr. Basavaraj Kagali, Head of the
department, Physics, Bangalore University. Various demonstrations
were held by Dr. Sree Raghavan, Director, Brainstars, Dr. K.T.
Madhavan, Scientist, NIAL, Dr. Gopal Hegde, Senior scientist, Indian
Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
Valedictory function was held on
13th October 2010, the programme was presided over by Dr. Smt.
Vasundhara Bhupathi, Dr. S. Anantharaj, Chief Executive Secretary,
VGST, Dept. of Science and Technology was chief guest for the
programme. Prof. K.S. Nataraj, Hon. Chief Executive Officer,
Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat was also present during the occasion.

Bangalore South division,
student-scientist Interaction programme was held on 28th and 29th
October 2010 at Shikshakara Sadana, K.G. Road, Bengaluru. The
programme was inaugurated by Sri S.K. Shivakumar, Director, ISTRAC.
Prof. J.R. Lakshmana Rao, renowned science writer and former
President, Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat presided over the
function.
Dr. H.S. Niranjana Aradhya,
president, KRVP, Dr. Smt. Vasundhara Bhupathi and Prof. K.S. Nataraj,
Hon. Chief Executive Officer, KRVP were present during the occasion.
After the inauguration, a series of
interactive lecture session were held, delivering the inaugural talk
Dr. K.J. Rao spoke on “Scarcity of Energy Resources”, Prof. M.R.N.
Murthy, IISc. spoke on “Symmetrical structures”, Sri H.R. Madhusudhan,
Scientific Officer, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Bengaluru
demonstrated various science experiments for the school children. Dr.
C.M. Chandrasekar, Institute of Mathematics, Chennai delivered a
special lecture on “Joy of excitement of exploring nature”.
The 2nd day also students witnessed
interactive lecture sessions wherein eminent scientists spoke on
various fields of science. Dr. Vasanth Kulkarni, a renowned medical
practitioner spoke about “Health issues”. Dr. Bhaskar, spoke on the
topic “Statistics - a scientific analysis”, Sri S.G. Satish spoke
about “Dooms day - 2012”, Dr. Anantharaj, Chief Executive Secretary,
VGST spoke about various projects undertaken by vision group, Dept. of
Science and technology. Sri S.G. Satish spoke on the topic “How to
solve non-routing problems”, Dr. Praneshachar spoke about “Journey
through space”. Lastly Dr. Sree Raghavan, Brainstars interacted with
the students.
During the valedictory programme,
eminent personalities Prof. M.S. Ramaprasad, Dr. S. Anantharaj, Chief
Executive Secretary, VGST, Dr. Smt. Vasundhara Bhupathi, Hon.
Secretary, KRVP and Prof. K.S. Nataraj, Hon. Chief Executive Officer,
KRVP were present during the occasion and distributed certificates for
the students. |

Congress - 2010
State level children Science
Congress was held at Regional Institute of Education, Manasagangothri,
Mysore. The inauguration of the programme witnessed several eminent
personalities such as Prof J.R. Lakshmana Rao, Former President, KRVP,
Prof. G. Ravindra, Director, NCERT, New Delhi was the Chief guest for
the programme. The programme was presided by Dr. H.S. Niranjana
Aradhya, President, KRVP. There were totally 312 projects submitted
from 33 districts of the State (94 - urban senior, 95 - Urban junior,
97 - Rural senior, 62 - Rural junior). There were 30 students
selected for national level. |

Unveiling of Dr.
H.N.'s Bust
An unveiling ceremony of Dr. H.N.'s Bust
installed in Vijnana Bhavan premises of KRVP is organised on
23-03-2010 at 11.00 a.m. Dr. P. Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of
Science will unveil Dr. H.N.'s Bust. Dr. N. Nagambika Devi IAS,
Commissioner, Department of Collegiate Education will inaugurate.
"Prof. M. A. Sethurao Auditorium" and Prof. M. I. Savadathi, Former
Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University has kindly agreed to inaugurate
the "Science Park". Prof. J. R. Lakshmanrao will inaugurate the
Popular Science Library. Dr. H. S. Niranjana Aradhya will preside over
the function.

Activities for February
2010
National Science Day Celebrations 2010
Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat is
celebrating National Science day by organising various science activities
for different target groups. This year we are concentrating on the life
and works of Prof G. T. Narayan Rao his contributions to the Kannada
science literature.
Various competitions for degree college
students and D.Ed trainees of Bengaluru. A culmination programme is
organised on 28th February 2010 at Vijaya College, R. V. Road, Jayanagar,
Bengaluru. Experts in various fields will address the participants and
give away the prizes to the successful students who participated in
competitions organised on the eve of "National Science Day : 2010". All
the programmes and the activities of National Science Day are being
organised with the financial assistance of Department of Science and
Technology, Government of Karnataka.

Environment
Awareness Campaign : 2009-2010
The National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC)
was launched by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of
India in 1986. Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat (KRVP) has been identified
as the Regional Resource Agency (RRA) for the Karnataka state since 1996.
During this academic year there are 325 organisations selected out of 900
from the Ministry for financial grants for which they have to carryout
Awareness and Action programmes in their regions.
The focal theme for this year being "Climate
Change", there are various sub-themes on which these organizations
have to carryout activities. The state level Pre-Campaign workshop is
scheduled to be held on 21st February 2010 at Karnataka Rajya Vijnana
Parishat, "Vijnana Bhavna" No. 24/2, 21st Main Road, Banashankari 2nd

Karnataka Vijnana Vidya Jagruthi
Vision Group on Science &
Technology in association with DSERT and Department of Pre-University
Education has launched a programme entitled "Karnataka Vijnana Vidya
Jagruthi : Student - Scientist Interaction Programme" under the guidance
of Prof. C. N. R. Rao, FRS, Chairman, Vision Group Science & Technology (VGST).
Karnataka Rajya Vijnana
Parishat (KRVP) has been identified as the coordinating agency. The
following are the objectives of the programme.
To create awareness among
students & teachers about the careers & opportunities in basic sciences.
To organize student -
scientist interaction programme.
To expose and keep them
informed about the latest developments taking place in the field of
Science & Technology.
To popularize Science &
Scientific methods among students and teachers.
To promote and encourage
basic sciences.
This programme is being
organized in all the 33 districts of Karnataka State.
About 350 - 400 students and
teachers are selected from various schools / colleges in each district.
Four scientists from various
disciplines will deliver lectures. Each lecture will be followed by
interaction.
Duration of the programme
will be 2 days.
Presentations and lectures
will be followed by discussions & interactions.
Presentations may consist of
Talks, Multimedia presentations / Power point presentations,
demonstrations and other participative programmes.
The question & answer /
interaction sessions will be documented & efforts to publish them in a
consolidated and edited form will be made later.
Film Shows / Slide shows /
Field visits / Nature trails / Sky watching / Bird watching / any other
useful and innovative activity as suggested by the scientists or other
resource persons will be incorporated the extent possible.
At the end of the programme
in all the districts, a state level programme on a large scale is being
envisaged. About 500 students from all over the state & scientists from
various research and academic organizations will be invited to JNCASR for
a five-day-interactive programme.
OOD facility will be given
to participating teachers & resource persons.
